Tax return preparers should start the 2023 filing season by renewing their Preparer Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs), which are set to expire December 31, 2022, the IRS announced. Tax preparers must pay a non-refundable fee of $30.75 to renew or obtain a 2023 PTIN, the IRS stated. 2022 PTIN owners are better off using the 15-minute online renewal process as the paper option could take up to four to six weeks to complete, the IRS noted.
