The IRS disbanded an office it set up in the wake of the 2017 tax overhaul’s passage that was specifically tasked with implementing the law, said David Kautter, the assistant Treasury secretary for tax policy.
“The office has been taken down as of a couple of weeks ago,” Kautter, who served as acting Internal Revenue Service commissioner until late last year, said April 1 during a conference in Washington. “It has done an enormously effective job.”
