IRS Plans Events to Sign Up Families for Child Tax Credit Funds

The IRS announced Wednesday that it will hold a string of events this weekend to help eligible families register for the Child Tax Credit advance payments.

Sessions will be held July 23 and 24 in cities including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, and Oklahoma City, the IRS said. The sessions come as the IRS sent out its first round of monthly Child Tax Credit advance payments last week, a new effort that the Biden administration has said could greatly reduce child poverty.

• Help will be available for eligible families who didn’t file a 2020 tax return, the IRS said.
