IRS Reaches Goal of Hiring 5,000 Employees to Answer Phones

The Treasury Department announced Wednesday that the IRS has reached its goal of hiring 5,000 customer-service representatives to answer the agency’s phones and perform other functions.

The hiring is part of an effort to use a portion of the IRS’s new $80 billion in funding from the Inflation Reduction Act to make quick improvements to taxpayer services during the upcoming tax-filing season.

“Resources provided by the Inflation Reduction Act will enable the IRS to provide better service this filing season so taxpayers can get issues resolved and phone calls answered,” Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said in a statement to Bloomberg ...
