Last month, the Internal Revenue Service issued final regulations setting the annual fee that tax return preparers must pay to apply for or renew their Preparer Tax Identification Number.
The IRS encourages tax return preparers to act soon, since PTIN applications and renewals for 2020 are now being processed. And, all current PTINs will expire on December 31, 2020. The IRS estimates that more than 800,000 tax return preparers will apply for or renew a PTIN this year.
