IRS Revokes Another 83 Pieces of Tax Guidance as Obsolete (1)

The IRS said it would eliminate 83 pieces of guidance that have been deemed obsolete, as part of President Donald Trump’s push for deregulation.

The guidance documents “no longer provide useful information,” and rendering them obsolete will streamline tax administration, reduce the volume of guidance that taxpayers and their advisers must review, and increase clarity of the tax law, the IRS said Thursday (Notice 2025-36).

The revoked guidance dates as far back as 1954 and is as recent as 2024, with much of it relating to tax provisions that have since been repealed or amended.
