Companies experienced in building user-friendly web portals and large, cloud-based forms processing applications are the primary targets of a new IRS request for information about implementing more of the agency’s modernization strategy.
When it is fully deployed, the IRS expects its information returns intake system user interface, or IRIS/UI, will process 7 billion to 10 billion of the transaction filings annually.
The RFI describes a future solicitation requiring artificial intelligence-enabled code development, testing, delivery, and deployment to support IRIS. The contract could last as long as five years, according to the Sept. 12 announcement.
