House Ways and Means Democrats didn’t get the Jan. 16 shutdown briefing they were hoping for from IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig.
“They canceled,” Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) told reporters when asked about the meeting.
Neal previously said the committee planned to meet with Rettig to gather information on the shutdown’s effects on the upcoming tax filing season, which begins Jan. 28.
A Treasury Department spokesperson told Bloomberg Tax in an email that Democrats declined an offer by the Internal Revenue Service to have two deputy commissioners brief them.
