IRS Taps Experts for Agency-Run Filing System Study (2)

The IRS has chosen the think tank New America and Loyola Law School Professor Ariel Jurow Kleiman to help the agency study the feasibility of creating its own free online tax-filing system, the agency said Wednesday.

The agency’s announcement comes after the Inflation Reduction Act provided the IRS with $15 million to produce a report, due to Congress in mid-May, on the viability of the IRS establishing and running a “free direct efile tax return system.” The law calls for the study to include an examination of the cost of such a program and public opinion about this type of ...
