IRS Tax Tip: Don’t Attempt to Use Gift Cards to Pay Taxes (IRC §6311)

Taxpayers should be mindful of scammers attempting to steal gift cards by impersonating IRS agents trying to collect taxes, the IRS warned. Scammers often target taxpayers by asking them to pay a fake tax bill with gift cards, the IRS stated. Scammers may also use a compromised email account to send emails requesting gift card purchases for friends, family or co-workers, the IRS commented.
