IRS to Flag Its Legal Authority More in Wake of Loper Bright

The IRS may start emphasizing its authority to write regulations a bit more in the wake of the recent US Supreme Court ruling that gives judges more power to question them, an IRS official said Wednesday.

Julie Hanlon-Bolton, deputy associate chief counsel for income tax and accounting in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, emphasized that overall the IRS expects little change in how it writes regulations because of the high court’s ruling in Loper Bright Enterprises vs. Raimondo.
