Tax Writers Offer IRS Whistleblower Bill
The top Republican and Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee’s tax subcommittee have teamed up to introduce legislation to strengthen the IRS whistleblower program.
The bill, from subcommittee Chair Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) and ranking member Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), would make several changes to boost whistleblowers’ protections, including expanding the US Tax Court’s ability to review IRS whistleblower award determinations and establish a presumption of anonymity for whistleblowers when appealing an award decision.
