The IRS won a partial victory at the US Tax Court Thursday in a more than $8 million case over how to value the estate of a deceased medical device maker.
Tax Court Judge Cathy Fung rejected the estate’s summary judgment arguments in a memorandum opinion. She found that the IRS official who valued the estate of Kurt Amplatz, founder of the firm KA Medical, did get timely written approval from their supervisor before imposing a penalty, as required by law.
