Japan Eyes 4% Corporate Surtax From 2026 to Fund Defense: Kyodo

The Japanese government is planning to introduce an additional 4% tax on corporations from April 2026 to fund its increase in defense spending, Kyodo reports, without attribution,

  • Also plans a 1% charge on individual income tax from Jan. 2027, which will be offset by a 1% cut in special reconstruction tax
