Japan LDP, Komeito Float Food Consumption Tax Cut: Yomiuri (1)

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party and coalition partner Komeito started considerations toward asking the government to reduce consumption tax, especially on food, as a measure against rising prices and US tariffs, Yomiuri reports.

  • Yomiuri cites unidentified Komeito official saying a proposal to temporarily cut consumption tax on food products has emerged
  • Yomiuri also reports some LDP officials seeking to pursue tax cut as a campaign pledge for the upcoming Upper House elections, although cautious voices remain
