Japan Mulls Extending Tax Break for Aviation Fuel: Jiji

The Japanese government is considering keeping the lower aviation fuel tax into fiscal 2023, Jiji reports without attribution.

  • Airlines usually pay 26,000 yen/kiloliter for domestic routes, but the tax was reduced to as low as 9,000 yen in fiscal 2021 as a pandemic support measure; tax was raised to 13,000 yen for fiscal 2022
  • Transport ministry plans to request the move in fiscal 2023 tax reforms
