KPMG Australia CEO Departs Over Whistleblower Case Handling

The head of KPMG Australia is leaving the firm over mismanagement of an investigation into whistleblower claims, the Big Four consulting and accounting giant said Friday.

CEO Andrew Yates is stepping down immediately, KPMG said, to be replaced by Stan Stavros; Julian McPherson, national managing partner audit and assurance, is also stepping down.

The firm’s initial internal investigation was “in hindsight not conducted with the necessary rigor required,” it said. A subsequent external legal review, backed up the whistleblower claims.
