LA Plans 1,600 Job Cuts to Help Close $1 Billon Budget Hole (1)

Facing a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Monday proposed deep cuts, including laying off roughly 5% of the city’s workforce, to help stabilize finances after January’s deadly wildfires and a drop in revenue.

The mayor’s $14 billion budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year holds general fund spending flat, but shifts priorities and eliminates 1,647 jobs.
