House lawmakers may narrow their vision of a year-end bill with tax provisions, instead opting to continue current tax breaks that they still may struggle to pass.

What is looking most likely is action on a skinnier set of items that could include a broadly popular retirement bill (H.R. 1994) that has been stalled in the Senate and disaster tax relief. Lawmakers had initial hopes of fixing errors in the 2017 tax law and addressing expired perks, like those for clean energy.
