Liberty Tax LLC agreed to pay $150,000 and change its marketing to settle a suit brought by the state of California accusing the tax preparer of deceiving consumers by advertising loans as advance refunds.
In addition to the civil penalties, the company will be required to explicitly label the service as loans in marketing, according to the proposed settlement filed Monday in California Superior Court.
