The Louisiana Attorney General (AG) issued an opinion clarifying homestead and veteran exemptions. The opinion clarifies that for the homestead exemption, “buildings and appurtenances” include structures that could be used as a dwelling, as long as they are located on the same tract of land as the main residence and not used for commercial or income-producing purposes. The opinion also states that if a property qualifies for the disabled military veteran’s exemption, it extends to the entire property, including all buildings and appurtenances, in the same manner as the homestead exemption.
