Malaysia Tax Agency Updates Guidelines on Real Estate Gains Tax

The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board March 17 updated Guidelines No. 2/2025, on the real estate gains tax (CKHT). The updated guidelines include that: 1) all taxpayers must file electronic CKHT returns within 60 days after disposal, with payment due within 90 days after disposal; 2) where consideration is entirely or partially made up of money, buyers must withhold the lesser of the entire amount of money, or up to 3 percent, 5 percent, or 7 percent of the total consideration amount, depending on the holding period; 3) buyers can choose to pay the CKHT if notified by the seller about ...
