Malaysia’s Anwar to Prioritize Plugging Leakages Over New Taxes

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government needs to fix weaknesses in the administration before considering taxes that could burden the people.

  • “Before we think about taxes, first we consider our work, the implementation of it, and the system we inherited,” Anwar told civil servants at a monthly assembly in Putrajaya on Monday
  • Anwar said they needed to improve the system’s efficiency and control leakages and corruption
  • NOTE: Anwar on Friday presented Malaysia’s 2026 spending plan that aims to lower the fiscal deficit without introducing new taxes
