Memphis Light Worker Lacks Job Bias Claims, Valid Settlement

Memphis Light, Gas & Water doesn’t have to face trial on a worker’s claims that he was denied an accommodation for his Jehovah’s Witness faith and wasn’t offered a job he sought because of his disability, the Sixth Circuit ruled Thursday.

Jason Small likewise lacked evidence that he and the utility had actually reached a binding settlement before a judge dismissed his discrimination claims on the eve of trial, the court said. Small filed his motion to enforce the alleged settlement almost immediately after the lower court granted summary judgment to Memphis Light, it said.
