Meta Pixel Use on Taxpayer Data Needs Rules, Former IRS Watchdog Says

Former National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson on Saturday called on the IRS to conduct oversight of online tax-preparing services that use the Meta Pixel, a string of code used on websites that may track sensitive taxpayer data.

Speaking at the American Bar Association Midyear Tax Meeting in San Diego, Olson expressed concern about the agency’s oversight of tax preparation companies such as TaxSlayer and TaxAct, who have been collecting tax return data using the pixel.
