Mexico Appeals to US Lawmakers to Stop Remittance Tax: Sheinbaum

Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente and Mexico’s Ambassador in the US Esteban Moctezuma are speaking with US lawmakers about their opposition to a 5% remittance tax proposal that forms part of a US bill, President Claudia Sheinbaum said at her daily press briefing.

  • “We’re not in agreement,” Sheinbaum said, while outlining the measures Mexico was taking
  • Mexico officials are also speaking to representatives of other potentially affected countries, including India, one of the world’s top remittance receivers, to appeal jointly to US members of Congress, Sheinbaum said
