Michigan Attorney Sentenced for Failing to Report $2.6 Million

A Michigan attorney was sentenced to 18 months in prison for failing to report more than $2.6 million in income to the IRS.

Personal injury lawyer Carl Collins was indicted in 2019 for failing to report that money, which was derived from various sources including two businesses that he owned, starting in 2012, according to his indictment.

Collins would deposit the income into a trust account for holding client funds which he maintained, and didn’t report the money on his tax returns or the existence of this trust account to the Michigan State Bar. He also neglected to file ...
