Microsoft Loses Suit Demanding IRS Audit Information (1)

Microsoft has failed to convince a Washington district court that the IRS acted improperly in handling a Freedom of Information Act request on the agency’s nearly two-decade transfer pricing audit of the company, a case the court said has gone “completely astray.”

The tech giant has been embroiled since 2007 with the Internal Revenue Service over an audit on the company’s cost-sharing agreements in the Asia-Pacific region—a case, the court noted, “that has seen three presidential administrations.” Microsoft in 2011 made two FOIA requests related to the the audits, seeking all documents sought by the IRS. ...
