Minnesota Paid Family Leave Nears Finish Line With Senate Vote

The Minnesota Senate passed a bill to create a state-run family and medical leave program to cover paid time off for a worker’s serious medical condition, pregnancy, bonding with a new child, or caring for a sick family member.

The proposal, which the Senate passed Monday by a vote of 34-33, would ensure workers can take off several weeks per year under certain circumstances, with benefits funded by employer and employee premium payments initially totaling 0.7% of employee wages. The benefits and premiums would begin July 1, 2025.
