Tax preparers in New York can file their clients’ state tax returns with an electronic signature under legislation signed Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The measure (A.7765A/S.8832), which takes effect immediately, is intended to streamline the process and make the use of electronic signatures on tax returns more consistent in the state.
- Individual filers have been permitted to use an electronic signature on their own returns, but tax preparers were required to use a “wet” signature when filing a New York state return on behalf of clients.
