Nascent China Competition Bill Seen as Potential Tax Vehicle

A new US-China competition bill could be a potential avenue for enacting tax policy, even after similar efforts came up short last year.

Senate Democrats in May announced plans to start work on legislation, building on the CHIPS and Science Act that won backing from both parties. While taxwriters’ attempts to attach a research and development break and an expanded Low-Income Housing Tax Credit in CHIPS failed, they’re making the case again as talks begin on the new bill.
