The House formally approved Rep. Richard Neal as the next chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, an influential panel that handles tax, trade, and health policy.
The chamber approved a resolution (H. Res. 7) officially tapping Neal for the role Jan. 3—the first day of the 116th Congress. Text of the resolution isn’t yet available, but a spokesman for House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) told Bloomberg Tax Jan. 4 that the measure placed Neal at the helm of the tax-writing panel.
