Netflix, Hulu Avoid Missouri Video Fee After City Drops Case

A Missouri city dropped its proposed class action accusing Netflix Inc. and Hulu LLC of owing video service provider fees after its similar suit against satellite TV companies failed.

The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District dismissed the city of Creve Coeur’s suit Dec. 5 at the municipality’s request. The same court ruled in October that DirecTV LLC and Dish Network Corp. didn’t have to pay a state video service provider fee because an amendment to the law clarified that the companies were never subject to the fee in the first place.
