Netflix, Hulu Say Missouri Fees Amendment Refutes Class Suit

Netflix Inc. and Hulu LLC don’t owe Missouri video service provider fees for years prior to an amendment that clarified they never applied to streaming companies, they told a state court.

The legislature amended the Video Service Providers Act to clarify that companies like Netflix and Hulu weren’t ever liable for the fees by narrowly modifying the definition of a video service provider instead of granting an exemption that would take effect later this month, the two companies said in a filing released Monday.
