Netherlands, Germany Agree on Tax Rules for Remote Workers

Germany and the Netherlands Monday updated their tax treaty to allow cross-border employees to work from home for up to 34 days without having to pay tax on their income in either country.

Workers won’t have to pay tax on the same income in both countries, and the income will only be taxed in the country where the employer is established, a Dutch government statement read.

The agreement is a “first step” toward developing a more comprehensive agreement on how to tax cross-border workers, according to the statement.
