New GOP Tax Writers Bring Own Asks to 2025 ‘Super Bowl of Tax’

The Republican roster of the House’s tax-writing committee has little overlap with the panel’s GOP membership when the 2017 tax law passed Congress, throwing a curve into negotiations over extending the measure’s tax cuts that expire at the end of 2025.

Of the 24 Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee when it marked up the package, only five remain on the panel: Adrian Smith of Nebraska, Vern Buchanan of Florida, Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, David Schweikert of Arizona, and Jason Smith of Missouri, who is now chair of the committee.
