Math Error Bill Becomes Law, Others on Tap
President Donald Trump has signed bipartisan legislation to give taxpayers more information when they get notices about what’s known as math or clerical errors.
The new law directs the IRS to include on math and clerical error notices a clear description of the error, and indicate on which line on a federal return it was made. The notices also would need to explain how the computation was made and provide a clear deadline for requesting an abatement of tax assessment.
