Nigeria Is Owed $6.48 Billion in Back Taxes by Oil Firms: Punch

The government is owed the money by almost 100 oil companies, Lagos-based Punch newspaper reports, citing the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

  • At least 77 oil companies failed to remit petroleum profit tax, company income tax, education tax, value-added tax, withholding tax, royalty, and concession on rentals, Punch says, citing NEITI Executive Secretary Orji Ogbonnaya Orji
  • Agency will work with bodies including Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to recover the debt
