Norway’s finance ministry launched a public consultation Wednesday on potentially abolishing a tax on nitrogen oxide emissions, one of several environmental levies in its purview.
The ministry is considering Jan. 1, 2028, as a possible date for ending the tax, whose current rate is 26.94 Norwegian krone ($2.82) per kilogram of nitrogen oxide emitted.
The levy was introduced in 2007 to help Norway meet international emission obligations under the Gothenburg Protocol and the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
