NY Lottery Winner’s Estate Settles $1.5 Million Tax Dispute

The estate of a deceased taxpayer who failed to pay taxes on winnings from a “Win for Life” scratch-off game settled with the US.

The US Department of Justice and the estate of taxpayer Gary Owens filed motion to the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday, agreeing to a settlement where the estate will pay its $1.5 million tax debt, plus other penalties and additions.

Owens won the New York State Lottery’s “Win For Life Spectacular” instant scratch-off game in 2008, and entered into an agreement entitling him to $10 million paid quarterly through August ...
