New York lawmakers passed legislation Thursday to give themselves a $32,000 pay raise, making them the highest paid state legislators in the nation. The bill now awaits Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature.
The wage hike comes as Democratic lawmakers, who hold a supermajority in both the state Senate and Assembly, are trying to stave off tax increases in the 2023 session to deal with a tighter budget, inviting criticism from their Republican counterparts.
