A lawsuit alleging New York City’s property tax system discriminates against communities of color will move forward after the state’s high court held Tuesday it shouldn’t have been entirely dismissed.
The complaint sufficiently alleges causes of action against the city under the state property tax law and the federal Fair Housing Act “on the general basis that the system is unfair, inequitable and has a discriminatory disparate impact on certain protected classes of New York City property owners,” New York Court of Appeals Judge Jenny Rivera wrote.
