Ohio’s New Law Targeting Illegal Noncitizen Voting Challenged

A new Republican-backed Ohio law aimed at preventing rare instances of illegal noncitizen voting violates federal law because eligible voters will “inevitably” suffer, two groups said Friday in a lawsuit.

The citizenship-check process laid out by the law, which Gov. Mike DeWine (R) signed last December and goes into effect on March 20, will result in those currently allowed to vote to have their registration canceled, said the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
