Omnibus Spending Bill Would Increase IRS Budget to $12.6 Billion

The fiscal 2022 omnibus spending bill introduced early Wednesday contains a funding increase for the IRS, amid a challenging tax-filing season for the agency and taxpayers.

The bill (H.R. 2471) would provide $12.6 billion for the IRS, up $675 million from the enacted level for the previous year.

The omnibus would provide $2.8 billion for taxpayer services, which includes funds for Low Income Taxpayer Clinics, the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate, and increased hiring; $5.4 billion for enforcement; $4.1 billion for operations support; and $275 million for business systems modernization.
