Pennsylvania Revamps Tax Appeals System, Fixes Marijuana Tax

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) signed a bill Tuesday changing aspects of the commonwealth’s tax appeals system while also correcting a legislative oversight that had excluded marijuana dispensaries from tax relief.

Under the new law (SB 1051), the Board of Finance and Revenue is authorized to initiate and oversee voluntary settlements in tax appeals, which supporters say will help avoid lengthy and costly court battles when taxpayers are dissatisfied with decisions from the Board of Appeals, a division of the Department of Revenue.
