Poland Opposes EU Using Emissions Scheme to Fund Recovery: FT

Poland Deputy Prime Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz is opposed to using expanded revenues from the European Union’s carbon trading scheme to help repay the region’s borrowing for a recovery package, the Financial times reports, citing an interview with her.

  • Says Poland opposes because the burden would unfairly hit Poland’s economy, which generates 80% of its electricity from coal
  • Says EU should find other ways of boosting revenue, such as introducing a tax on digital platform companies or removing barriers in the single market
