Portman Proposes Back-to-Work Bonus for Next Stimulus Bill

Republican Senator Rob Portman is proposing a back-to-work bonus of $450 a week for those who return to their jobs before the expiration of a temporary increase in unemployment insurance.

  • NOTE: The boost in unemployment insurance was granted under an economic relief package in March
  • Portman, a negotiator of the March bill, says on the Senate floor that he is drafting the proposal to redirect the federal subsidy for unemployment insurance toward a temporary work incentive for employees who can return to their jobs before the end of July
