Publix Heiress Fights Tax Summons by US, Italian Authorities

The daughter of the founder of Publix Super Markets Inc. grocery store chain is fighting IRS investigations into her finances at the behest of Italian authorities.

Julia “Julie” Jenkins Fancelli filed a petition to quash IRS summons seeking bank information, which was requested in accordance with the US tax treaty with Italy. The summonses are improper and procedurally flawed, she told the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida, calling them a “blatant ‘fishing expedition’.”
