The Rhode Island Division of Taxation published an advisory reminding taxpayers of the upcoming effective date for the new tax on kratom and kratom products. The tax will go into effect on April 1, at a rate of 15 percent of the wholesale cost, to be paid by kratom distributors who must be licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Health, which will also oversee the licensing of kratom retailers.
