Rich Nations Urge UN to Steer Clear of OECD’s Tax Efforts

The US and other large economies are urging United Nations tax treaty negotiations to steer clear of the OECD’s work in reforming global corporate tax rules.

A UN committee drafting terms of reference for a treaty should restrict itself to filling gaps left by existing international tax cooperation work, rather than supplant or compete with other projects, several nations said in submissions to the committee.

Simultaneous reforms of the same tax issues would result in the fragmentation of global tax rules, forcing countries to pick between them, the US said in its submission.
